Mark Williams, Member of Parliament for Ceredigion and Deputy Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, has criticised the failure to improve mobile and broadband infrastructure in rural Wales and its negative impact on job growth during questions to the Wales Office on Wednesday, 24th February.
Mark welcomed the news that the unemployment rate had fallen in Wales, but raised concern over flagship government projects such as the Mobile Infrastructure Project (MIP) which have failed to live up to expectations.
Mark said “Mobile and broadband infrastructure is vitally important to helping small businesses grow in rural areas of Wales. Unfortunately, despite much noise about the benefits that would be made by MIP and other projects, they have simply not materialised.
“Far too many businesses in rural Wales, and especially in my constituency of Ceredigion, continue to find it difficult to expand as a result of poor or non-existent mobile and broadband access. The Government must ensure that rural areas do not get left behind as a result of their failure to deliver on their promises.”
