Mark Williams, Member of Parliament for Ceredigion, has welcomed today’s announcement that the UK Government have reversed the first year of cuts to S4C.
The Culture Secretary, John Whittingdale, announced the reversal of the cuts for the first year, as well as a comprehensive review into S4C’s remit, governance and funding.
Responding to the announcement, Mark said:
“I am glad that the Culture Secretary has responded to the calls for a review into the remit and scope of S4C, and that the first year of proposed cuts have been reversed.
“The funding U-turn is welcome, even though it is only a partial one, being only for the first year. S4C deserves and needs financial stability, as does the independent production sector in Wales.
“There remain, however, longer-term funding issues which need to be addressed.”
