Mark Williams, Member of Parliament for Ceredigion, brokered a meeting this week with Steff Jones of the Llandysul Angling Association and Natural Resources Wales, held at the Porth Hotel, Llandysul, to discuss the issue of fish stocks in the River Teifi.
This followed representations to Mark regarding concerns on depletion particularly of the stock of Sea Trout, and worries that this problem is not being addressed.
Mark said “This was a very useful meeting which discussed the importance of getting accurate data on existing stock levels and the breadth of the forthcoming Welsh Government and Natural Resources Wales consultation.
“I was assured that over the coming months that Natural Resources Wales would consult fully with all stakeholders and river users. What remains of critical importance is recognition of the large contribution that angling makes to the local economy along the Teifi, and to retain and develop that, we need sustainable fish stocks.
“I hope that any emerging national strategy does recognise the uniqueness of the River Teifi.”
