Ceredigion’s Welsh Liberal Democrat MP Mark Williams has congratulated the Aberystwyth Farmers Market on winning ‘Best Food Market’ in Radio 4’s Food and Farming Awards 2014.
The only Welsh Market to be included in the shortlist, Aberystwyth Farmers Market was launched in May 2000, and has up to 30 stalls every first and third Saturday in the month. In 2010 the market was also voted among the Top 10 Farmers’ Market in the UK by the Times.
Mark Williams has tabled an Early Day Motion in Parliament congratulating Aberystwyth Farmers Market on winning this award.
Commenting Mark Williams said:
‘As a regular shopper at the Aberystwyth Farmers Market, I can testify to the wealth of fantastic local produce on offer and how well deserved this award is. The market is an asset to the local community, and a showcase for Ceredigion’s producers. It is also a great way to encourage people to buy locally, which both supports our local economy, and is better for the environment.
‘I pay testament to all the local people who have worked hard to establish the market over the years, and of course to all the local producers and consumers who come to buy and sell their goods every fortnight – all contributing towards the award winning status it enjoys today. I look forward to the Market’s growing success in the years to come, celebrating the very best of Ceredigion.’
