Mark Williams deems parking tickets for community nurses on duty ‘insulting’

Ceredigion’s Welsh Liberal Democrat MP Mark Williams has spoken of his dismay that nurses working at the Church Road surgery have received parking tickets whilst on duty, despite clearly displaying their nursing badges on the windscreens of their vehicles.  This situation has been exacerbated by the fact that, when contesting these parking tickets, the County Council has refused to overturn them, stating that they ‘found no grounds for the cancellation of the charge.’

Having received representations from the community nurses affected, Mark Williams has contacted the Chief Executive of the County Council to express his disappointment at the decision to uphold the car parking fines for the nurses, particularly as both nurses had badges clearly displayed in their windows saying ‘Community Staff on Duty’ and ‘NHS authorised.’

Commenting, Mark Williams, said:

“Issuing unnecessary parking tickets is no way to treat community nursing staff who do so much to care for all in our communities.

“To say that the parking tickets which have been issued will be upheld is an insult to the nurses who work so hard to care for others, who displayed their badges on their vehicles, and whose vehicles were in no way causing an obstruction on the roads they were parked on.  I will continue to press the Council on this issue, in the hope that they will reconsider this action.”
