Ceredigion’s Welsh Liberal Democrat MP Mark Williams has expressed his dismay at the announcement of the closure of Barclays Bank in Tregaron.
Having written to Barclays to relay the concerns of those in Tregaron, Mark Williams said:
‘I am very concerned by this announcement, not only due to the detrimental impact this will have on the local economy, but also due to the loss of support, and face to face services for local residents – particularly elderly customers who will rely on this.’
‘This closure is all the more worrying following the retreat of other services in the local area, and I urge Barclays to reconsider. Simply saying customers can transfer to the nearest branch, which can be miles away, is inadequate. Once again the banks should show a social responsibility for those in our rural communities.’
