Mark Williams, Member of Parliament for Ceredigion, has called on the Government to hold a debate on the Motability Scheme and the impact of wrong Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessments during Business Questions on Thursday 7th January.
The Motability scheme enables disabled people to lease a car, scooter or powered wheelchair using their Government funded mobility allowance to help improve their mobility.
However, there have been an increasing number of people who have lost access to their vehicle as a result of a wrong PIP assessment, only to have them restored when appeals at subsequent tribunals have been won.
Mark said “Motability do excellent work providing disability complaint vehicles, but unfortunately far too many people are being hit by wrong PIP assessments which means those who rely on these vehicles lose them and have to go through a stressful appeals process before getting a vehicle back.
“Many people who rely on the Motability scheme to improve their mobility would be left completely isolated in our County without access to a vehicle. It is vital that we get a debate on this issue, and I will continue to call for the Government to recognise the terrible impact that these wrong assessments are having on people in Ceredigion.”
