Member of Parliament for Ceredigion, Mark Williams, has raised his concern after the announcement by B&Q of the closure of 9 stores in Wales, including Aberystwyth and Cardigan.
The announcement will mean the closure of both of the stores within the County, with the nearest open store being in Carmarthen.
Mark said: “I am very concerned to hear that both of B&Q’s stores in Ceredigion will be closing. This will have a substantial impact on employment in the area and is understandably causing worry for many people who work at either of the stores.
“While B&Q have stated that they will endeavour to find other positions for many of the current employees, this will come as little consolation with there being no other stores within the County.
"I am particularly disappointed having been part of the opening for each one, which seems barely a few years ago.
“I have written to B&Q’s Chief Executive asking for any assurance that he can give me and B&Q’s employees in Cardigan and Aberystwyth over their future employment.”
