Mark Williams, Member of Parliament for Ceredigion, has reiterated calls for the Post Office to remain at its Great Darkgate Street location following the cross-party march and demonstration held in Aberystwyth on Saturday 19th March.
Mark said “The removal of this Crown Post Office to a franchisee would mean the nearest Crown Post Office would be in Port Talbot or Shrewsbury whilst Aberystwyth will be left with a Post Office in one retail outlet or another.
“What message does this send about the need for a vibrant Great Darkgate Street? What guarantees do we have about a Post Office remaining as a franchisee in perpetuity? And there seems to be no guarantees and meaningful protections for the hard working Post Office staff who serve Aberystwyth so well.
“The public meeting held recently in Aberystwyth and the march that followed illustrates the public concern about this. Our local campaign will continue to highlight these concerns and call on the Post Office to abandon its attempts to tender out this vital service.”
