Mark Williams, Member of Parliament for Ceredigion, has visited S4C in Cardiff as part of his role on the Welsh Affairs Committee to look at broadcasting in Wales.
Mark questioned the Chief Executive and Chairman of S4C over the impact of government cuts to their programming.
Mark said “It was great to visit S4C and see the hard and important work that is done to provide Welsh-language programming.
“However, there are serious worries for its future with the appalling cuts that are being made by the Government. S4C’s budget has been cut by 36 per cent over the last 4 years, against a BBC cut of 20 to 25 per cent, disproportionate by anyone’s standards.
“Despite the Government’s stated commitment to S4C, by allowing these cuts to go forward, they have shown a serious lack of understanding of S4C’s importance. This hugely damaging and short-term decision will have deep implications for Welsh-language broadcasting and the creative industry in Wales.”
