Ceredigion Lib Dem MP Mark Williams has welcomed Labour’s U-turn on cuts to the Welsh Books Council based in Aberystwyth.
The Welsh Labour Government had planned controversial cuts to the Welsh Books Council budget of 10.6 per cent, but have reversed their decision after strong opposition to the move.
Commenting on the decision, Mark said “I welcome the announcement that following representations from many of us that the Government has finally seen sense over this issue. These cuts would have had a detrimental effect not only on the Welsh Books Council, but also many publishers across Wales and in Ceredigion.
“I am glad that the Government have acknowledged the strong sense of feeling on this issue and recognised the negative economic impact that the move would have had on Wales.”
