Mark Williams, Member of Parliament for Ceredigion has spoken during Business Questions to ask the Minister for a full debate on the future of S4C.
Mark said: “In February the Government made the wise decision to freeze the proposed cut to DCMS’ contribution to the S4C budget and also conceded that there should be a review into the future of S4C, something many in the broadcasting industry in Wales have called for, and politicians of all parties.
“S4C have a proud contribution to the cultural and linguistic life of Wales and our economy, but we constantly have to press the Government for assurances on funding. We are still none the wiser as to when the review will commence, who its personnel will be, what its remit will be, and the timing of its deliberations. This uncertainty is unacceptable.
“It was strongly implied that the review would happen this financial year and would include future funding arrangements. As time ticks on, with an Autumn Statement next week, some clarity from Government is required to end any uncertainty.”
