Mark Williams, Member of Parliament for Ceredigion, met a number of the volunteers at Siop Dewi in Capel Dewi near Llandysul yesterday, Thursday 8th October, and congratulated them on winning a prestigious volunteering award.
Mark said “Visitors will not fail to be impressed by the excellent community shop in Capel Dewi which is staffed entirely by volunteers. It is absolutely no surprise to me that the volunteers at Siop Dewi won in the group category of the Wales Volunteer of the Year Awards 2015, which is much deserved.
“In too many communities we have seen village schools shut, post office services withdrawn and pressure on local businesses increase. Siop Dewi, which is adjacent to the village hall, provides an invaluable social hub in the village and for those in the surrounding area and also a space where the post van is able to park up.
“I commend the fantastic work of Dolen Dewi, the Capel Dewi community association, and I am glad to see their hard work recognised by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action.”
