Mark Williams, Member of Parliament for Ceredigion, has met with Post Office management this week to discuss concerns over the potential closure and relocation of the Aberystwyth Crown Post Office branch. Mark called the meeting with Post Office management after strong concerns were raised in the days following the announcement.
Mark said “I felt it very important to meet with the Post Office at the earliest opportunity to voice the many concerns that have been relayed to me by constituents since the announcement last week to put the service out to tender.
“I am particularly concerned for the jobs of the staff of the Aberystwyth Post Office branch. While we are as yet unclear whether the tender will be taken up by a business and secondly, where that will be, I made the case for the importance of the Post Office remaining at the commercial hub of Aberystwyth town centre.
“We will need to keep a very close eye on any decisions made by the Post Office once proposals from businesses start to emerge, and I have made it abundantly clear that I would expect Post Office management to come to a public meeting of Aberystwyth residents and Post Office users once more is known.
“While they are obligated to hold a full consultation process, I want the people of Aberystwyth to have the opportunity to question the management and to make their concerns known very clearly.”
